A beautiful heavyweight showing coat by Lester Bowden, tailors of Epsom since 1898.
A lovely cut, with a brown velvet collar and rich toffee-coloured lining.
It's in the hacking style with single vent at the rear, and three external skirt pockets.
This coat is also heavy enough to wear hunting - perhaps in the warmer, earlier part of the season.
It would look beautiful teamed with your chestnut or skewbald in the show ring.
Initially working door-to-door by horse and cart, Arthur Bowden established the tailoring business that has resided in Epsom for over century at the young age of 18. His son Lester was born above the shop his father established and became tailor to many notable figures. On one occasion, Lester received a telephone call from what seemed like a prank caller, announcing that he was calling from Buckingham Palace. Lester brushed off the apparently false claim with words to the effect of ‘buzz off!'. It turned out to be the Prince of Wales! Despite this challenging start, the Prince became a Bowden customer. Other titled patrons were to include Sir Winston Churchill.
